The Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP)
President George W. Bush has issued a proclamation designating October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month. In the proclamation, he noted that “individuals with disabilities are making important contributions in the workplace.” He also called upon all Americans to “reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that the opportunities of America are available and accessible to every citizen.”The Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) provides leadership to increase employment opportunities for adults and youth with disabilities. ODEP is a federal agency in the Department of Labor.
Preparing the Workplace for Everyone has just been published, and is also available online. The document is a framework of guidelines for federal agencies related to including employees and visitors with disabilities in emergency plans. The framework was developed by the Workplace Subcommittee of the Interagency Coordinating Council on Emergency Preparedness and People with Disabilities. ODEP serves as chair of this subcommittee.
